Moving to Korea is a big process! Most English teachers in Korea never visited Korea before moving there to teach. Accordingly, many people might not know what to bring. In this post, we will discuss a few of the most important things to bring with you to Korea.
Useful things to bring with you to Korea
In my personal opinion, Korean food is absolutely delicious. Also, the bigger cities offer a decent variety of international cuisine, including Indian, Italian, American and so on. However, it’s not a bad idea to bring some comforts of home if you like cooking. For example, you may bring a particular spice or flavor or a spread such as marmite or peanut butter. These items don’t take up much space in a suitcase and are a great reminder of home.
Another really important heads up concerns toothpaste. Of course Korea sells all kinds of toothpaste. However, many English teachers argue that even the name brands don’t have the same taste and texture as their counterparts in North America and the UK. So if you are particular about your toothpaste, you should definitely bring a few tubes. Lastly, you should definitely bring deodorant. Most Koreans don’t use deodorant because they don’t need it. It’s possible to find it in Korea, but it’s not easy. So, you should bring some from home!
Electronics and Backpacks
All of the apartments in Korea will have access to Internet. This will already be set up in your apartment or your director will help you do it when you arrive. However, it is a good idea to bring an Ethernet cable. Also, Korea has different electrical plugs than North America. Korea uses Type C and F. It is smart to get a few converters before you fly so you can charge all of your devices as soon as you get to your apartment. Lastly, Korea is a great place for traveling, whether the traveling is in the city or in the mountains. There are a hundred occasions that call for a backpack and they are sometimes expensive to buy in Korea. If you have a favorite backpack, definitely bring it from home.
These are a few of the more important things to bring with you to Korea. However, you shouldn’t worry. Korea is a highly developed country that sells just about everything. If you do accidentally forget something from home, there is a very good chance that you can find it in Korea.
